Ann Farrell (nee McDermott) died peacefully at home on April 10, 2026 in Long Beach, NY at the age of 90, surrounded by loved ones.

Ann is survived by her children, Richard Farrell Jr. and wife Jean Marie Farrell of Miami, FL and Lisa Ann Cavanagh and husband James Cavanagh of Long Beach, NY. Ann was also loving grandmother to Patrick, Kevin, Shannon, Brian, Matthew and Tara, as well as to her great grandchildren Beatrice and Laurent. She is preceded in death by her devoted late husband Richard Farrell who she was married to for 33 years. She is also preceded by her loving parents Bernard and Ann (nee McAvoy) McDermott and her twin sister Joan.
Ann was born March 5, 1936 in Newark, NJ. She is an alumnus of Union High School and Drake Secretarial School, Newark. She was a loyal secretary with the Irvington Brokerage Firm of Godfrey, Hamilton, Taylor and Co., Inc. where she was introduced by her boss to Dick Farrell, local college basketball phenom , who later became a widely respected and award winning Social Worker in New York City.

The New Jersey couple married and started a family in Newark before moving through various New York boroughs to continue growing their family, ultimately settling in Long Beach, NY in 1970. Upon seeing a sailboat on Reynolds Channel, Ann realized Long Beach is where her and her family were meant to be. Her children remember her as a patient, wise mother who encouraged them to pursue their goals and live freely.

Ann enjoyed painting, gardening and cooking and was a great lover of animals. She loved and cared for several cats and dogs in her lifetime. She loved the beach, the sun and the tranquility the ocean offered her in Long Beach. She loved television and film, especially history, mysteries and a good horror film. Ann was raised a Catholic, attending Catholic grammar school, who took her religious upbringing very seriously and sacredly raising her children in the Catholic Church.

After a private cremation a funeral mass is scheduled for 10:00AM Thursday April 16th at St. Ignatius RC Church 721 W. Broadway in Long Beach, NY. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Ann's life. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to North Shore Animal League at http://www.animalleague.org .
