Ann Marie Mittag (née Nixon)

Ann Marie Mittag, née Nixon, daughter of Bertha Nixon (née Reinhardt) and Kenneth Nixon Sr., was born on December 16, 1940, in Newark, New Jersey. She spent most of her adult life in Saugerties, New York, a community she loved and served in many ways.

Ann was a devoted Scout leader for 30 years, serving as a Den Mother and Advancement Coordinator, and earning the distinguished Silver Beaver Award for her exceptional service. She was especially well known for organizing Pinewood Derby races and coordinating campouts and fishing derbies that left a lasting impression on countless scouts and families.

In her earlier years, Ann was an avid skier and lifelong lover of Himalayan and Maine Coon cats, sharing her home with nearly a dozen over the years, each cherished as family.

Ann was a faithful member of the Saugerties United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school and supported the church community.

She worked as a legal secretary and enjoyed traveling with a close-knit group of fellow travelers, forming friendships and memories that enriched her life.

Ann was a proud and loving mother to her son, James S. Mittag IV, and daughter-in-law, Kristin. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James S. Mittag III, and her brother, Kenneth Nixon Jr. She will be remembered for her dedication to family, service to others, and quiet strength and kindness.

A Celebration of Life will be held this spring in Saugerties, New York, with details to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Saugerties United Methodist Church.
