Anne W. Dewees (Wright), aged 91, passed away on December 28, 2025, in Falmouth, MA. Born in Richmond, RI, she was a dedicated mother, nurse, and community leader.
Anne cherished her family, leading them with love, support, encouragement, and sometimes firm guidance. She also loved her many friends, especially Helen Hull, Rita Ottaviano, and her sister Barbara Young.
Anne was the beloved wife of the late David C. Dewees, MD, and mother to Rebecca Dunk (Dwight) and David Dewees. She was adored by her grandchildren Justin (Heather), Adrienne, and Lianna Dunk, Aaron (Savannah), and Nicholas Dewees. She also loved great-grandchildren Jackson, Royce, Rowen, Jonah, and Flora.
Anne played a pivotal role in the lives of each of her grandchildren, and they remain deeply connected to her.
She is survived by her sister, Barbara T. Young, and was preceded in death by her parents, Freda K. and John E. Wright, Sr., and her brother, John E. Wright, Jr.
Anne earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Rhode Island in 1957, when baccalaureate education of nurses was uncommon. She was a Phi Kappa Phi honors recipient. Anne's nursing career included leadership roles in Obstetrics, Oncology Registration, and Nurse Education. Being an RN was important to Anne, and she kept her license active until late in her life.
Anne believed in service to her community and that we all should participate as we are able. She was a volunteer, member, board member, and president of numerous organizations including the Falmouth Hospital Auxiliary, Upper Cape Cod Nurses' Association, the Falmouth 300 Land Trust Committee, The Coalition for Buzzards Bay, North Falmouth Congregational Church Council, Neighborhood Falmouth, and Dillingham Place Resident Board.
Anne was also elected Town Meeting Member 2011-12.
Anne's most enduring public legacy is founding the Cape Cod Curling Club with her husband, Dave, in 1969. She advocated, mentored, and provided stewardship at the club for nearly sixty years. The club evolved from a few dedicated people making ice sheets at the skating rink to a nationally recognized curling organization.
Always an advocate for women's rights, diversity, and inclusion, Anne joined the board of the Grand National Curling Club after working successfully to have the all-male club expand to include women and mixed curling. The club now includes everyone.
A memorial service with a celebration to follow will be held on January 17 from 10 AM to 1 PM at the Cape Cod Curling Club, located at 37 Highfield Drive, Falmouth, MA.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Cape Cod Curling Club or the Falmouth 300 Committee, honoring Anne's commitment to her community and passions.
