ANNETTE EUNICE VAN ZWOL KRUIS
December 15, 1925 - October 15, 2025
Annette Eunice Kruis was born on December 15, 1925 to Henry and Gertrude (Roodzant) Van Zwol at Everett General Hospital in Everett, Washington. She was the third of three sisters, Mae Elizabeth (b. 1921) and Helen Louise (b. 1923).
Annette attended the Everett Christian School until the eighth grade, then graduated from Everett High School in 1943, during World War II when the nation paid to educate nurses for the war effort. Annette earned her nursing degree through Everett Junior College, now Everett Community College. She graduated in 1947 and served as a nurse throughout her life, most of her career in the Intensive Care Unit.
Also in 1947, Annette met Peter James Kruis. The couple married in 1949. Their son Philip Henry was born in 1950, daughter Corliss Helen in 1953, son Stanley Dale in 1955, and daughter Patricia Lynn in 1959. The family moved around the country, Peter serving as teacher and principal at Christian schools in Mt. Vernon, WA, Manhattan/Churchill, MT, Sunnyside, WA, Lansing, IL and back to Everett, WA.
Peter died in his sleep June 14, 1992. Annette continued to live in Everett until 2004 when she moved to Eagle Point, OR to live near Philip and his family.
Annette faithfully attended the Christian Reformed Church until she moved to Southern Oregon where she attended the Eagle Point Community Bible Church and later Westminster Presbyterian Church in Medford.
Annette deeply loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, a devotion that graced every moment of her life. She loved being a mother. She found her career as a nurse rewarding and fulfilling. When she retired in 1987, Annette volunteered for several causes.
People knew Annette as a steadfast prayer warrior and letter-writer. In 1970, she started a weekly family letter which she sent each Sunday to all members of the extended family. She continued this tradition until just weeks before she died.
Annette is preceded in death by her husband, Peter, her daughter-in-law, Linae Kruis, and her son Philip Kruis. She is survived by her daughter Corliss (Jim) Mock, son Stanley (Bessie) Kruis, daughter Pat (Mel) Tellinghusen, daughter-in-law Gail Kruis, 12 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
In her final days, Annette lived at Celia’s House, a hospice house in Medford, OR. We, her family, are forever grateful for the gracious setting, the loving care, and Murphy the cat, who gave Annette comfort and joy in her last hours. Celia’s House depends on donations. celiashousehospice.org
