Annmarie Rose Viola passed peacefully into eternal life on December 9, 2025 at Avery Heights in Hartford CT.
Ann was born in Hartford on January 11, 1938 to Rose M. Palazzi Viola & Ralph J. Viola Sr.
Ann would become the youngest of the four Viola siblings having been predeceased by her sisters Philomena R. Martino & Cynthia R. Gramegna and her brother Ralph J. Viola Jr.
Ann attended The Immaculate Conception School followed by HPHS and years of studies and degrees in higher education from UCONN & Central CT.
Extremely outgoing & popular during her school days her 8th grade classmates named her The Most Likely To Succeed, Most Studious, Best Athlete, & Most Class Spirit.
Ann's HPHS classmates crowned her The Junior Class Prom Queen and had her dressed like the Queen of England on Prom Night.
Ann would spend over 30 years teaching Reading at Buckley High School finishing her career at her alma mater HPHS.
Extremely talented Ann was a tremendous quilter & crafter. She also loved to play her Lowery organ. She enjoyed many years at her summer home in Orleans on Cape Cod.
In her younger days, Ann enjoyed trips to Italy & to California to visit friends. One of her fondest memories was the year she helped make a float for The Rose Bowl Parade.
Her greatest pleasure in retirement was the company of her faithful cats that she adored. Her love for teaching students to read matched her love of reading during her retirement.
Having learned to swim at a very young age at Pope Park in Hartford Ann would excel at competitive swimming.
Ann also championed teaching youth how to swim and had enjoyed years of being a lifeguard in her teenage years and beyond.
Staying in great health throughout her life Ann enjoyed swimming laps into her 80s.
A resident of Wethersfield for 43 years, Ann enjoyed her final four years living at The Avery Heights Independent Living Center in Hartford. Fiercely competitive, her favorite activity at Avery Heights was winning at Bingo.
Special thanks to the outstanding staff at Avery Heights especially Nurse Anna Lukas for her extraordinary care of Annmarie in her final weeks.
Ann leaves her beloved and devoted friend Suzie Kuang whom she first met when Suzie arrived in her classroom in 1992. "Miss Viola" would teach Suzie how to read having been raised to speak and read Chinese.
Suzie would become like a daughter to Ann and would be Ann's final visitor just before she passed.
In addition, Ann leaves many nieces & nephews along with their families. She will also be missed by her Mapleside Dr neighbors that were like family to her.
Services were private as she wished and Ann was laid to rest in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Hartford, the city she loved her entire life.
Read in Peace "Miss Viola" as Suzie continued to affectionately call Ann until her passing.
Desopo Funeral Chapel in East Hartford was entrusted with her final arrangements.
