Send Flowers
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Anthony Graham Brettnacher. He passed away on Monday, February 2, 2026, at the age of 14 years.
Anthony loved people and he never met a stranger. Some of his favorite phrases were "Come sit by me." "Are you happy? I'm so happy." and "I'm your buddy." He lived his life joyfully and his cheerful personality was and will remain an inspiration to all who met him. He demonstrated true strength of heart and courage no matter the obstacle. Anthony may have been blind, but it did not hamper his ability to truly see people. The world is a dimmer place because we have lost Anthony's light, but we have gained a shining star and angel.
Anthony attended The Kentucky School for the Blind (KSB) starting in Kindergarten, where he earned the title "The Mayor of KSB." He loved music and started most every school day by rocking out to "I like to move it, move it." He gifted his wish from the Make a Wish Foundation to KSB for a specially designed sensory specific playground that will continue to bring joy and fun to children for years to come.
Starting at the age of three, Anthony was the "Friends of Jaclyn" representative, the pediatric brain cancer philanthropy, supported by the University of Louisville Field Hockey team. He and his family developed a very special relationship with the coaches and players over the past ten years. Anthony's relationship with Louisville Field Hockey began the family's lifelong connection with field hockey.
Anthony is survived by his mother, Cierra Brettnacher-Martin (Sam), siblings Audrey, Tristan, Emiley and Thia and grandparents, Alan and Ellyn Gates, Robin and Roy Stubbs and Andrea and David Martin and his uncle, Henry Gates. He is preceded in death by his grandmother, Dara Swanson and his uncle, Bob Gates.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, February 14, 2026, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm in the Samuel Richie Music Auditorium at the Kentucky School for the Blind, 1857 Frankfort Avenue, Louisville, KY 40206.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to Friends of Jaclyn Foundation, who support children battling brain tumors or Shirley's Way that directly support individuals courageously battling cancer.
