Arthur Robert Aitkens passed away peacefully on May 26, 2023, at the age of 89. Born on February 19, 1934, in New Orleans, Louisiana, he was the son of the late Adrian Frank Aitkens and Mildred Elliott Aitkens.

A proud native of New Orleans, Arthur distinguished himself early through both academic excellence and leadership. He graduated second in his class from Tulane University Law School in 1958. After his first year of law school, he was elected Vice President of the student body and later served as National Vice President of the American Law Student Association. He began his legal career with Mobil Corporation, where he served as Associate General Counsel until his retirement in 1990. He was widely respected for his intellect, professionalism, and sound judgment.

In the early 1970s, Arthur moved to Armonk, New York, where he made his home and raised his family. His residence became well known for its beautifully maintained gardens, featuring roses, peonies, crepe myrtle, and double tree peonies. Gardening was one of many pursuits that reflected his appreciation for beauty and careful cultivation.

Arthur was an accomplished classical pianist. He won the New Orleans Pops Contest at age 13 and continued his musical studies at distinguished institutions, later earning recognition as the winner of the Van Cliburn Foundation's Second International Piano Competition for Outstanding Amateurs in 2000. His favorite composers were Sergei Rachmaninoff and Franz Schubert, whose works he performed with depth and dedication.

He was also an accomplished horseman. In New Orleans, he taught riding to children at a local stable, where he met his future wife, Marguerite Doris Newman ("Peggy"). An accomplished dressage rider, Arthur owned and trained horses for many years and took great pride in the discipline and partnership the sport required.

Arthur had a lifelong love of French culture, collected fine antiques, and traveled extensively throughout the world. He was known for his Southern gentleman charm, impeccable style, and keen wit.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Peggy. He is survived by his daughters, Virginia M. Doetsch (Richard Lee Doetsch, III) and Michele R. Bellantoni (M. Anthony Bellantoni), and his six grandchildren: Richard, Marguerite, Tony, Olivia, Julia, and Isabelle.

Arthur Robert Aitkens will be remembered for his intellect, artistry, discipline, and devotion to his family.
