Arthur Hilborn, born on January 5, 1943, in Red Oak, Iowa, passed away on March 18, 2026, in Oak Harbor, Washington. He was 83 years old.
Arthur spent his early years in Red Oak before eventually settling in Palo Alto, California, where he graduated from Cubberley High School. He went on to earn a degree in political science from Stanford University.
After serving in the Army Reserves, Art ultimately found a career he truly loved with the San Jose Police Department. He took great pride in his time with SJPD, where he served the community and made life long friends until his retirement.
Beyond the badge, Arthur had a keen interest in history and found joy in investing in the stock market and real estate. These hobbies reflected his analytical mind and passion for understanding both the past and the intricacies of financial growth.
Family was central to Arthur’s life. After retiring to Whidbey Island, he enjoyed cross country road trips with his wife Ester. He enjoyed the annual summer family get togethers when his children and grandchildren would come to Whidbey Island for a week. He meticulously planned activities and excursions for the whole family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Ester Hilborn; his children Diane Mahanty (Harish) and Bryan Hilborn (Kellie); as well as six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren who brought him immense pride and joy. He is also survived by his brothers Ray and Jim. Arthur was predeceased by his first wife, Judith Takayo Hilborn, and his sister Helen Hilborn. A Celebration of Life is planned for June 13 in San Mateo.
Arthur’s legacy is one of dedication—to his family, career, and personal interests. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.
