In Loving Memory of Mrs. Stamboulis (1929–2025)
Mrs. Stamboulis passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at Sunrise of Arlington, following a courageous battle with kidney disease and complications from heart failure.
Born in Alexandria, Egypt, in 1929, Mrs. Stamboulis was a woman of remarkable heritage and spirit. Her life was a journey across cultures and continents; she immigrated to Athens, Greece, in 1961 before making the United States her home in 1966. A deeply significant milestone for her and her family occurred on September 11, 1973, when they all became proud citizens of the United States.
A gifted linguist, she was fluent in five languages—English, Greek, French, Italian, and Arabic—reflecting her deep connection to her roots and her worldly perspective. Education was a cornerstone of her life. Before her career in business, she was a dedicated educator, teaching elementary school in both Alexandria and Athens. After moving to the United States, she continued her commitment to teaching by leading Greek classes in Washington, D.C., at both St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral and St. Katherine Greek Orthodox Church. She took immense joy in sharing her Greek heritage and was always eager to discuss "all things Greek" with anyone she met.
For many years, Mrs. Stamboulis was a respected fixture in her community as a restaurateur and the proud owner of the El Rancho restaurant in Forestville, MD until her retirement in 1990. Beyond her professional life, she was a dedicated member of the Gateway Lions Club. Those who knew her most remember her wonderful personality and a sense of humor that brought delight to everyone who crossed her path.
She is survived by her loving daughter, Nefeli Keebaugh; her son, Chris Stamboulis; and her son-in-law, Rick Keebaugh. Her warmth, wit, and vibrant character will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and the community she served so faithfully.
