She met her future husband in Seattle while she was working for the Boeing aircraft corporation. Bill was the handsome soldier who just returned from Korea on his way home to Wisconsin. They were married on a snowy evening (after the cows were milked) on November 5th, 1955, at Peace Lutheran Church in Menomonie Wisconsin. A devoted wife and mother to her husband and children, Avis cherished their 64 years of marriage and the legacy of their seven children, eighteen grandchildren, and nineteen great-grandchildren.

She was always involved in Homemakers or Home Community Educators and took advantage being able to go to College Days at UW Madison. She loved learning and her favorite subjects involved US history.
They enjoyed retirement together in Rome (Wisconsin). She was very active in her local community as a Rome-maker and part of the Rome chorus as well as Choir at Good Shepard Lutheran Church. Avis loved traveling and she and Bill explored much of the United States together once he retired.
Their later years together were spent closer to family, in Muskego, WI. where lady's group, Altar guild and OWLS at St. Paul's Church kept her busy. She enjoyed the many activities at Stoney Creek Senior living community in Muskego, acting in their theater productions, playing cards, and ever the farmer's daughter, working in the community vegetable garden.
Her last years were spent in Elkhorn, where Avis enjoyed playing 500 with the many friends she made at the local library.
