Barbara passed away on March 11. 2026 in Manassas, Virginia at the age of 96. She
was born in Pawtucket, RI to Eugene Ahearn, a resident of Pawtucket and Nora Ahearn
who migrated from Ireland. She was the youngest of 6 siblings. Raised in a close knit
irish catholic family, with four brothers and one sister, she spent many hours sewing,
knitting, reading and going on beach trips. She attended Pawtucket East High School
where they called her "Bobbie".
In late 1948, she enrolled in the Sturdy Memorial Hospital RN diploma program. She
graduated in1951. Shortly thereafter she met Raymond R. Gingras who she married in
1954. Together they had four children and eventually moved to Cumberland, RI.
Barbara worked for approximately 30 years devoted to caring for the sick and juggling
taking care of her own husband, kids and eventually her dear Aunt Bess. She also
managed to sew and knit some of her children's clothes. Barbara loved nursing and
worked extensively in the hospital setting and as a home care nurse for the local
arthritis foundation. However, she shifted into an administrative role at a local hospital
before eventually retiring.
She remarried in 1997 to Robert Curry who she met at the local Senior Center while
both were volunteering- Barbara taking blood pressures and Bob serving soup. They
married in 1998. In 2001 they relocated to Winchester, Virginia to be closer to her kids.
They both became active in their church and community. In 2005, Bob passed away.
She insisted on caring for him at home as long as she was physically able. In 2006,
she moved even closer to her kids to Northern Virginia.
In her later years, she volunteered her time sewing, knitting and donating to multiple
charities. At the assisted living facility, she was known for her thick New England
accent, her kindness, lifelong faith, generosity and love of grandchildren. She was
preceded in death by her 5 siblings and survived by her children, Susan Henebery,
Barbara Gubler (Dean), Sandi Evans (Gary) and Stephen Gingras (Donna).
She was also blessed with 9 grandchildren- Daniel, Ann, Margaret, Catherine, Haley,
Jonathan, Matthew, Zachary and David as well as 3 great grandchildren, Cormac,
Louis and Clara.
