It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Barbara Kay Benson on December 17, 2015 in Claremont, California. She was 79. On October 3, 2021, Barb suffered a cluster of strokes. After her health crisis, she moved to Claremont to be closer to her sister.
She began her life in Plymouth, Michigan, a charming and picturesque town. Subsequently, in 1956, she, her mother (Maxine E. Doll), and her sister relocated to West Los Angeles, California; her father (Thomas H. Doll) joined them at a later time. She was a student at Venice High School and successfully completed her studies with the Trevisians class in June of 1965.
Barbara was married to Pete De La Peza, and they subsequently divorced. She then married Roubik Gregorian, later divorcing but remaining friends. She did not remarry.
She was an accomplished artist and worked as an illustrator for different companies until landing at Hughes Aircraft, Culver City. She later was promoted to Event Coordinator at Hughes Aircraft & Raytheon. She retired from Raytheon due to health issues.
Barb was truly a pillar of strength, courage, kindness, and love. She always entered a room with energy, inclusiveness, and beauty. Her creativity was boundless and playful.
Barb enjoyed a variety of activities, including engaging in phone conversations, dining with friends, beach strolls, classic film viewing, creative writing, drawing, and crafting imaginative experiences. Alongside her sister, Debbie, she contributed to numerous award shows, including The Grammys, The Emmys, and The CMA Awards. Barb possessed a remarkable ability to transform any situation into an adventure. She was known for her spirited personality and her profound appreciation for engaging discussions.
It is important to note that she also enjoyed sharing her passions with friends and family, including nature, animals, art, family, friends, and human-interest stories.
Quoting Barb: "If you pay attention to the milestones in your life, learn as much as you can, stick to the truth even if it is difficult, and stay healthy enough to grow old, then you will see most of your personal life's questions answered. It is a wonderful and fulfilling emotion and sense of cohesion.”
Her absence leaves a void that words cannot fill.
Barbara's survivors include her sister, Debbie (Benson) Uhlack; brothers Greg Bayliss and Michael Doll; an adopted daughter, Kim De La Peza; nieces Helen Kalognomos and Kimberly Uhlack Sneddon; nephews Alex Kalognomos and Jeffery Uhlack; beloved cousin and family members, Kathy and David Stokan, Andy Stokan, Allison and Stephen Marshall (Kate and Sybil); brother and sister-in-law, Alex Sr. and Medea Kalognomos; brother-in-law, Victor Gregorian; as well as close friends considered family.
Those who preceded her in death were her parents, Thomas H. and Maxine E. Doll; her mother and father-in-law, Ella and Karl Gregorian; and her brother-in-law, Ronald W. Uhlack.
In keeping with her wishes, cremation was chosen. Her ashes will be scattered in a private family ceremony at a later date.
An informal Celebration of Life will be held on March 7, 2025, in San Antonio Heights, Upland, CA.
May she find eternal peace in the embrace of our Lord.
