Barbara Ann Daniel

Barbara Ann Daniel (née Karstens) of Springfield, Oregon, passed away on Thursday, January 29, 2026 after a long illness. She was 86 years old.

Barbara was born on September 2, 1939, to Anna (née Rezab) and Edward Karstens in Chicago, Illinois. She graduated from St Nazareth Academy in LaGrange, Illinois.

She married Edward Daniel October 1, 1960, and had three children, Michael, Christine, and Sharon. Work relocated the family several times in the early days, but the family settled in and raised their children in Merrillville, Indiana, where she resided for 35 years.

In 2007, Barbara retired from a career in restaurant management and relocated to Springfield, Oregon to live near her daughter, Sharon, and enjoy the beauty of the Pacific Northwest. Barbara loved celebrating Christmas, making jewelry, cooking, antiquing, volunteering, and learning new things. Her passion was gardening; she loved designing the landscape around her home. Her greatest joys were to spend time with friends and family, entertaining them in her home, which she made beautiful and cherished.

Barbara is survived by her children, Michael (spouse Beth), Christine (spouse Paul), and Sharon (spouse Fernando), her granddaughter Zakiya Hannah, seven nephews, one niece, and numerous grand- and great- nieces and nephews.

Barbara was predeceased by her husband, Edward Daniel; her parents Edward and Anne Karstens; her sister, Patricia Karstens; sister-in-law, Arlene Richert (Daniel), brother-in-law, Robert Richert, and nephew, Kenneth Jaeger.

A memorial service will be held at St Mary Catholic Church in Eugene, Oregon on March 20th, 2026 at 12:15pm.
