Barbara Jean Dobson, 81, passed away peacefully on February 10, 2026, surrounded by love.
Born November 5, 1944, in Rosenberg, Texas, Albert Guss, Sr. and Selma (Meyer) Tesch, Barbara lived a life grounded in family, resilience, and quiet strength. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend whose love and presence left a lasting mark on everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Barbara graduated from Lamar Consolidated High School in Rosenberg, Texas, where she was honored as "Most Beautiful" in her senior year. She retired from the Fort Bend County District Attorney's Office in April 2013 after a long and dedicated career that began in the 1970s. Over the years, she served under five District Attorneys and became a highly respected Office Coordinator. Barbara truly cherished her colleagues and the many lasting friendships she formed along the way.
Her life was defined by fierce love, generous giving, and deep compassion for her family, her friends, and the animals she adored. She was known for her kindness, strength, generosity, and fierce independence — along with a wonderful sense of humor. Barbara had a quick wit and a dry, understated way of making people laugh, often at just the right moment. Though a private person, she held those she loved close to her heart and expressed her affection through steadfast loyalty, quiet support, and thoughtful acts of care. She found joy in time spent with family and friends, cherished her beloved animals, and delighted in dining out at her favorite restaurants, savoring good food, familiar places, and meaningful conversation. Her warmth and sincerity created lasting bonds and left a lasting impression on all who shared in her friendship.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Al; her son, David Mensik; her sisters Margurite Hutchins of Lake Jackson, Texas; Elvie Detmore of Longview, Texas; Maxine Wilson of Houston, Texas; and her brothers Albert Guss "A.G." Tesch, Jr. of Kenney, Texas, and A.F. "Tommy" Tesch of Abita Springs, Louisiana.
Barbara is survived by her son, Darren Mensik and his wife, Lenore; her grandson, Jake; her daughter, Emilie Dobson and her fiancé, Justin Babb; her sister, Doris Mays and her husband, Bill; as well as extended family and dear friends who will miss her deeply.
She will be forever remembered for her love, grace, laughter, and the enduring place she holds in the hearts of all who knew her.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the nurses and staff of Remarkable Hospice and to the caregivers and staff of Hallmark Healthcare Solutions for their compassion, kindness, and devoted care.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Fort Bend County Animal Shelter, 1210 Blume Road, Rosenberg, Texas 77471, reflecting Barbara's lifelong love of animals and her compassionate spirit.
The family will gather at later date for a Celebration of Life luncheon with close family and friends.
