Barbara Jeanette Purchase

Barbara Jeanette Purchase (Hahn) was born in Oakland, California on August 19th 1926 to Brayton and Gladys Hahn. She was blessed with intelligence, beauty and athleticism. In high school she joined the rowing team to practice on lake merritt. She graduated Stanford with a B.Sci in Chemistry and quickly found a job in Redwood City. Soon after college she met her life-long partner, Alan Purchase, who was just back from the war in Europe. Together they lived the post war dream, settling in Los Altos, raising a family, participating in the community, and relaxing with friends. While her children were young, Barbara was involved with girl scouts, friends of the los altos library, league of women voters, save the bay, and other community groups. She enjoyed playing bridge and tennis at a competitive level. Her cooking was a delight for her family and friends. Her interest in interior design motivated more than one tasteful residential remodel. As Alan's consulting work expanded internationally, they travelled extensively together, visiting Europe and the Mediterranean region dozens of times. For their family, they hosted numerous multi generational domestic vacations which are fondly remembered by all. Having lived the good life, they were reluctant to leave. Barbara finally passed away 6 months after Alan on June 15th 2025. They were always generous and thoughtful towards their family and will be greatly missed by their three children, five grandchildren and four plus great grandchildren.
