Barbara Romes

1951 - 2026

Mrs. Barbara Ann (Scales) Romes, 74, of Leo, Indiana, returned to her heavenly Father on March 16, 2026, while snowbirding in Indian Rocks Beach, Florida. Born on July 5, 1951, in Peoria, Illinois, Barbara was the cherished daughter of the late Robert Scales and Martha Bass Scales of Pulaski, Tennessee.

Barbara shared a devoted marriage with her husband, Gregory R. Romes. She is survived by her daughter Christina M. Mommer Betts and son-in-law Aaron M. Betts; two grandsons, Austin M. Geisleman and Lucas M. Kirkwood; and her beloved granddaughter Kylie G. Betts. She was predeceased by her treasured granddaughter Sophia G. Betts. Barbara is also survived by her brother Steven Scales and sister-in-law Janet Scales.

Barbara graduated from New Haven High School in 1969 and went on to earn her Bachelor of Business Management at Indiana Purdue Fort Wayne. A few years thereafter, Barbara earned her Master of Business Science degree with honors from Saint Francis University, where she was a proud member of the Dean's List. She built a remarkable career at Raytheon Systems. For over 40 years, Barbara served as a Contract Administrator and Negotiator.

Barbara had a deep passion for music, especially enjoyed classic rock and roll and country tunes, which she loved experiencing live. She was also an exceptional cook known for her southern cuisine.

Despite living with rheumatoid arthritis for four decades, Barbara faced life's challenges with resilience and grace. She triumphed over breast cancer with courage and determination-a testament to her strength of spirit. Barbara would want to have all contributions made to her Rheumatoid Arthritis Foundation gofundme page. https://gofund.me/8045f2c00. All donations go straight to RA research.
