Barbara Balklman Ruddick passed away peacefully in her home on January 7, 2026 after a life full of love, friendship, and adventures.

Born April 22, 1938 to Leonard & Carolyn (Johannson) Allen, she grew up with her little brother John and cousins Jim Geiwtz, Kermit Roberg, Mark Roberg, Jill Roberg, and Suzy (Dero) Vold.

She graduated from Minneota High School in 1956 where she was an honor student, sang in the girls chorus, and served on the school newspaper. Here she was part of a group of 5 friends who she kept up with through reunions and annual get togethers.

After studying at Augsburg College, she became the first staff person for the Minnesota North Stars where she was the executive assistant to the General Manager. From there she went on to have a career in various roles with nonprofits including the Peace Corp.

She was an avid reader, thrifter, volunteer (Washburn Library), philanthropist, and traveler. She was known to eat dill pickles while reading and chocolate, mostly Reeses peanut butter cups, for breakfast. She travelled the world with her dear husband and true partner Keith. Some of her favorite places were Vermont in the fall, the Amalfi Coast (Italy), Palm Springs, and Hawaii.

She is survived by her husband Keith Ruddick, brother John Allen (and BJ) of La Crosse, WI, ‘niece’ Kecia (and John) Carroll and a long list of dear friends.

If you wish to make a donation her behalf, some of her favorite charities include American Red Cross, Crosstown Meals on Wheels, Help at Your Door and Second Harvest Heartland.
