Barbara Spreeman

1934 - 2026

Barbara "Barb" Spreeman (née Litt), a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 30, 2026, in Winter Haven, Florida. She was 92 years old.

Barb was born on February 3, 1934, in Goshen County, Wyoming, to John and Lydia Litt. She grew up in a Christian household that instilled in her the values of faith and service that she carried throughout her life. A proud graduate of Roosevelt High School in 1952, Barb embarked on a life filled with dedication to her family, community, and faith.

In her early years as a newlywed, Barb worked at The Michigan State Home as a cook's helper before becoming a cook. After moving back to Oregon with her young children, she devoted herself to being a stay-at-home mom until her husband's medical retirement necessitated a change. Demonstrating resilience and determination, Barb stepped into his role as a machinist at The Boeing Company in Portland. She worked there diligently until her retirement in 1996.

Barb's life was defined by her unwavering commitment to serving others. A member of the American Legion Auxiliary for over 50 years, she held numerous leadership roles including Unit President, 1st Vice President, 2nd Vice President, and Sergeant-at-Arms. Her culinary talents were put to good use as she prepared meals that brought people together and raised funds for Auxiliary and Legion programs. Most of her years with the Auxiliary were spent with Unit 180 in Milwaukie, Oregon.

After relocating to Winterhaven, California, Barb continued her legacy of service by volunteering nearly seven years at the thrift store operated by The Christian Service Center. Her generosity extended beyond time and effort; she provided financial support to both the American Legion and The Christian Service Center throughout her life.

Barb's faith was central to who she was. Raised in a Christian family, she ensured that her children were brought up with the same values. Her actions consistently reflected her deep belief in putting faith into practice—whether through acts of kindness or opening her home to friends and family members who needed a place to heal and rebuild their lives.

Barb found immense joy in spending time with loved ones. She is survived by her daughter Cynthia (Cindy) Cox; son Phillip Spreeman; niece Angie Paulsen; granddaughters Amy Kretowicz, Marissa Willard, Desiree Spreeman, and Moriah Spreeman; as well as eight great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Paris Dale Spreeman; parents John Litt and Lydia Smithers; brother Harvey Litt; sister Shirley Mills; and many cherished aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Barbara's memory will live on through the countless lives she touched with her kindness and generosity. May those who knew her find comfort in remembering the love she shared so freely.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date to honor Barb's remarkable life of service and devotion.
