Barbara Inge Welch 87, passed away peacefully on December 2, 2025, in Pasadena, Maryland. Born on November 27, 1938, in East Berlin, Germany, Barbara's life was a remarkable journey marked by resilience, dedication, and deep love for her family and friends.
Barbara immigrated to the United States from Germany and built a life rooted in hard work and perseverance. She held several positions throughout her career, including roles at Sears and Roebuck and Herb Gordon Automotive. Known for her unwavering work ethic and commitment to excellence, Barbara earned the admiration of both her colleagues and employers. Her dedication left a lasting impression on those who had the privilege of working alongside her.
Barbara was predeceased by her beloved husband, James "Jim" Welch, as well as her parents, Wolfgang and Margarete Koch. She is lovingly remembered by her daughter Cynthia Lynn; sons Mike Colvin and his wife Wilma, and Mark Colvin and his wife Cindy. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: Nicholas Colvin and Lucas Colvin (sons of Mike), Kyle Sackmann and Sabina Sackmann (children of Cynthia), Christopher Colvin and Kelsey Rouse (children of Mark); as well as great-grandchildren who brought joy to her later years. Barbara is also survived by her dear sister Sabine Verloop and brother-in-law Peter Verloop.
A woman of strength and spirit, Barbara was known for her quick wit, infectious sense of humor, and ability to bring laughter into any room. She was a loving presence—always ready with a listening ear or a comforting word—and deeply valued the time she spent with those she cared about.
Barbara had a passion for travel that took her across Europe many times. She especially cherished returning to Germany to visit her sister and extended family. Her home reflected one of her favorite pastimes—watching hot air balloons—with numerous mementos celebrating their beauty adorning every corner. Whether enjoying lunch outings with friends or sharing meals with family filled with conversation and laughter, Barbara treasured these moments most.
A memorial service to honor Barbara's life will be held on January 10th from 11 am-2 pm at Singleton Funeral Home.
Though she may no longer be here in person, the stories Barbara shared and the memories she created will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed by all whose lives she touched.
