Barb Shivy, born Barbra Ann Shivy on June 20, 1954, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Saturday, November 22, 2025. In life she was a fierce friend, an active beach bum, a dedicated educator to both children and adults alike, and an avid Phillies fan. She was the daughter of Stephen and Victoria Shivy and grew up in Kingston, Pennsylvania before attending Commonwealth University Mansfield to become an elementary special education teacher. Barbra worked in varied educational settings in her quest to help young children, and for her, her students were family. After 37 years as an educator, Barb retired in 2015 from the Cheltenham School District but did not stop teaching. She found herself working as a volunteer and teaching at Morris Arboretum. There she continued her dream of connecting with children while making new friends. Barb made friends everywhere she went and she also considered her friends to be her family. She loved her time spent with them around Chestnut Hill dining out, under the gazebo by the pool at Hillhouse, and especially, in Stone Harbor, New Jersey enjoying the shops, restaurants, and days on the beach. Barb truly believed that life is better in flip flops and she was never more happy and content than when she was in her "happy place" eating at Quahogs, shopping at Hoy's, picking up a nice bottle of wine at Fred's, or sitting under her umbrella at the beach. In her free time Barb could be found immersed in the culture and events of Chestnut Hill, a place that she fondly called home for many years. She was vivacious and energetic and often cried when she laughed. She will be so missed by so many. A celebration of Barb's life will be held at Adelina's Restaurant & Bar in Chestnut Hill (8235 Germantown Ave, Philadelphia, PA) on January 8 from 4-7 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her honor to either the Cheltenham Education Foundation or Morris Arboretum and Gardens.
