Barrie Bell Kern, aged 88, passed away on December 9, 2025, in Watchung, NJ. Born on December 18, 1936, Barrie was renowned for her kindness, humor, caring nature, and generosity. She had a lifelong passion for travel and a deep love for horses.
Barrie attended Abington High School followed by Penn Hall Nursing School, setting the stage for her nurturing character. She dedicated many years as a homemaker, creating a warm and welcoming home for her family. Later in life, she worked at Christoffer's Florist in Mountainside, NJ, where she brought joy and beauty to many through her floral arrangements.
Barrie was a remarkable hostess, known for her excellent cooking, entertaining, and gardening. Her love for animals was evident through her hobbies and the care she provided to all creatures, big and small. Her travels around the world reflected her adventurous spirit and curiosity.
She is survived by her daughter Wendy Murphy and son-in-law Michael Murphy; daughter Amy Kern; grandson Sean Murphy and his wife Christine; and great-granddaughter Catriona. Barrie also leaves behind her cherished grand-dog, Santo. She was preceded in death by her husband Donald Kern, grandson Conor Murphy, and brother Robert Bell.
A private celebration of Barrie's life will be held by her family at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Barrie can be made to The Raptor Trust, 1390 White Bridge Road, Millington, NJ 07946 (www.theraptortrust.org), reflecting her love for animals and nature.
