Bernice Bloom

1936 - 2025

Bernice Bloom, 89, a longtime resident of Silver Spring, MD, passed away peacefully on April 18, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.

Beloved wife of the late Martin Bloom; devoted mother to Leon Bloom and Audrey Bloom (Albert Mayo); cherished grandmother to Molly Roberton (Tim), Max (Emily) and Eliza Bloom, David and Rebecca Mayo; and adored great-grandmother to Jedd and Jack Bloom, and Martin Roberton.

Born on January 18, 1936, and raised in Brooklyn, NY, Bernice graduated from Brooklyn College and earned a master's degree in education from the University of Maryland. She dedicated 25 years to teaching as an elementary school teacher, later serving as a reading specialist and Talented and Gifted teacher in Prince George's County, Maryland. Her remarkable ability to connect with students and unlock their potential left a lasting impact. In later years, she taught Hebrew school and tutored children with learning differences, reflecting her lifelong devotion to education.

Bernice was known for her joyful spirit, warm hospitality, and boundless curiosity. She adored her family and took great pride in attending her grandchildren's concerts, sports and family events. Her home was always open for Passover seders, Sunday brunches, and spirited conversations that lasted late into the night. Adventurous and encouraging, she inspired those around her to embrace life fully.

An avid collector and antique enthusiast, Bernice was passionate about American pottery, vintage glass, clocks, jewelry, folk art, and more. Her expertise led her to open a small shop and later work in estate sales, where she was widely respected. She loved sharing her knowledge and gifted meaningful pieces to friends and family, often accompanied by stories about their origins.

Bernice's memory will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and students. A graveside service and burial took place on April 21, 2025, at Judean Memorial Gardens, Olney, MD.
