Bertrand Alfred (Al) Weinberg, 85, passed away on November 28, 2025 at Bellingham Washington. Al was born on October 25, 1940 in Sumter, SC to Ethel and B. A. Weinberg Sr. He was the first born of two boys. He studied animal husbandry at Clemson University as well as theology and English at Presbyterian College before choosing education as his career. At the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Al earned his master's degree in education and embarked upon a well-regarded career as a principal and superintendent.
Al led a school through desegregation in the South and was the first Superintendent of the Alaska State-Operated School System area that is now the Lower Kuskokwim School District REAA. He also established a consulting career becoming an expert in labor relations and school major maintenance and construction grants. Al helped many school boards and districts through-out his career. Al was always interested in equity issues in Alaska state education funding. Indeed, Al was researching current day Alaska school funding equity issues.
Flying, renovating/flipping condos and visiting his brother and daughters were things he enjoyed. But Al really loved to travel! Al and his wife Tammy embarked on many adventures in North America, Central America, New Zealand and Australia before settling in Victoria, Canada. This was where Al was most content. He and his wife had 30 years together but the years in Victoria were the happiest. Al was very proud of his dual citizenship.
Al is survived by his wife Tammy Stromberg, brother Sam, three daughters Whitney Smith, Tracy Ferguson and Ashley as well as 10 grandchildren.
