Betty Jane Andrews, affectionately known as B.J., was born Betty Jane Burk on September 18, 1928 in Houston, Texas to Lillian and Ralph Burk. B.J. passed away peacefully surrounded by family on January 18, 2026 in Austin, Texas at the age of 97.

B.J. left Houston to attend The University of Texas in Austin where she studied Home Economics. While in school, she met and married William Edward “Rooster” Andrews on June 14, 1946. Rooster was known as the “All-American Water Boy” at the University of Texas. He later became the owner of Rooster Andrews Sporting Goods. They enjoyed many years of success, eventually opening 4 locations across Austin. B.J. and Rooster raised their four children balancing family life with the demands of a thriving business- a labor of love for both of them.

After their children were grown, B.J. and Rooster enjoyed maintaining the business, traveling, spending time with friends, and attending Texas Longhorn sporting events. They shared a lifetime of laughter, adventure, and cherished memories.

She was preceded in death by Rooster, her parents Lillian and Ralph, sister Mary Larson, daughter Susan, and son Griff. She is survived by her daughters Lisa Ard and Betsy Dabbs, daughter-in-law Melissa Andrews; her beloved grandchildren Will Dabbs, Callie Malik (Randy), Austin Ard, Adam Ard, Billy Andrews, Lucas Andrews (Abigail), and her great-grandchildren Andie, Auggy, Frankie and Rawley Malik. She was excited about the impending arrival of Walker Andrews, due in February. The grandchildren will miss their Meems.

B.J’s love of family and friends was the heart of her life. She found joy in simple pleasures- being with her “Bridge Club” family, visiting with other loved ones, sharing stories, and keeping family traditions alive. Her memory will forever be cherished by those lucky enough to know her. She was a woman of great faith and spent many hours in the service of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

A memorial service will be held on February 14, 2026, 2:00 PM, at Saint Matthew’s Episcopal Church, 8134 Mesa Drive, Austin, Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Saint Matthew’s Episcopal Church Altar Guild, 512-345-8314, in B.J.’s memory.

B.J.’s legacy of love, family devotion, and kindness lives on in her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all who were touched by her remarkable 97 years.
