Betty Jean Cason Geno passed away peacefully on February 4, 2026, in Friendswood, Texas, at the age of 94, due to complications from dementia and strokes. Betty and her husband, George, were blessed with a wonderful family, sharing the love of God, music, sports, and travel. George was in the Air Force and after living and raising children in various countries, they retired to San Antonio, Texas, where Betty lived for many decades. She later moved to Pearland, Texas, where she lived the last 23 years to be closer to her children.
Betty was born on August 10, 1931 in Porterdale, Georgia, where she laid her foundation for a life marked by compassion and resilience. Betty started her caring nature as a nursing student at St. Joseph's Infirmary School of Nursing in Atlanta, Georgia. She became a visiting nurse in San Antonio, received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Incarnate Word College in San Antonio while in her 50s, continued her work as a nurse and later in the administration with the VA hospital system. Betty dedicated her life to the health and wellbeing of her patients, touching countless lives.
Beyond her professional achievements was Betty's love of music through her talents, mastering the piano and organ. She played during nursing school and at both her Presbyterian churches in Porterdale and San Antonio. She was a founding member of San Pedro Presbyterian Church in San Antonio and later a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church in San Antonio and First Presbyterian Church of Pearland. She was a devoted member of The Order of the Eastern Star, reflecting her deep Christianity. Betty's faith was the cornerstone of her existence, guiding her through life's challenges and joys with grace and humility. She was an officer of the Victims Against Violent Crimes organization in San Antonio, after the passing of her husband. Betty's faith and support of her community continued to guide her through life's challenges.
She was greeted in Heaven by her husband George, daughter Mary, granddaughter Stacey, and other members of her extended family. Her legacy lives on by her loved ones, including her cherished children George (Karen), Jeffrey (Rhonda), and Joy Green (Jonathan), sister Ann Bailey, as well as eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She was also adored by numerous nieces, nephews and other family and friends. She nurtured her patients with the same care she provided her family, creating a home filled with love and faith.
As we remember Betty Jean Cason Geno, we are reminded of the indelible impact one person can have on the lives of many. She will be deeply missed, yet her spirit will endure in the hearts of all who were blessed to have known her.
She will be buried next to her loving husband at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas, during a brief graveside ceremony at 2:30 on Thursday, March 5, 2026.
