Betty Jean Carpenter Simms, 82, of Orange, Virginia, passed away peacefully on February 11, 2026.
She was preceding in death by her parents, Mayme Martin and Walker P. Carpenter, as well as her brother, Walker P. Carpenter, Jr., lovingly known as "Butch."
After attending Florida State College, Betty pursued her lifelong commitment to caring for others by beginning her nursing career in 1979 at St. Luke's Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida. When the hospital later became part of Mayo Clinic, she continued her dedicated service there until her retirement in 2005.
Following her retirement, Betty returned to Orange, where she enjoyed reconnecting with her community and embracing a quieter pace of life. During this period, she married Harrison Simms.
Betty was an active and cherished member of Orange Baptist Church. She will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her kindness, and her willingness to help others. Among the joys in her life, one of the greatest was the companionship of her beloved dog, Twister.
Betty leaves behind a legacy of compassion, grace, and warmth that will be fondly remembered by family, friends, and all whose lives she touched.
