Beverly Ann O'Brien

1938 - 2025

Beverly Ann O'Brien, 87, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday evening, November 25, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on August 12, 1938, in Chemung, NY, Beverly was the daughter of Eva and Glenn Culver (both predeceased). She grew up in a loving home in Chemung and met the love of her life, J. Edwin O'Brien, Jr., while still in high school. It took six years of dating — and many dancing dates — before Ed finally convinced her to accept his marriage proposal. They went on to share 65 beautiful years of marriage, raising six children and building a life filled with devotion, laughter, and joy.

Beverly is survived by her husband, Ed; their six children — Colleen Delametter of Mechanicville, NY (Chris), Maureen O'Brien of Tampa, FL, Ed O'Brien III of Amber, PA (Ellen), Bridget Ackerman of Corning, NY, Molly Acuna of Yorktown Heights, NY (Franky), and Patty Sipes of Spokane, WA (Jim); 14 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Mrs. Mary Lou Kitchen of S. Waverly, NY (Dale) and Mrs. Hazel Catlin of S. Waverly, NY; as well as her sister-in-law, Ann O'Brien of Arlington, VA (Bill). She was pre-deceased by her brother, Don Culver of Waverly, NY.

Beverly was known for her unwavering love and commitment to her family, her quick wit, and her passion for musical theatre. She passed that love on to her children, taking them on cherished trips to New York City to enjoy Broadway musicals together — memories treasured by all. She especially enjoyed keeping people "thinking" — a playful, clever part of her personality that everyone around her came to adore. And of all the people she kept on their toes, no one was kept "thinking" more than Ed, a fact she took great joy in.

She loved to travel, especially to visit her children whenever she could. Her adventures took her to Japan, China, Hong Kong, Spain, Italy, France, England, and Ireland, with her two all-time favorite foreign cities being St. Petersburg, Russia and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil — two entirely opposite experiences, perfectly fitting
for her vibrant spirit.

She delighted in the small joys of life, especially time spent with her beloved group of friends in Corning, NY, with whom she played cards regularly and shared endless laughter. Above all, she found her greatest
happiness in being an involved, hands-on "Nana," deeply cherished by every generation. Her warmth, humor, and generous heart made everyone feel loved, welcomed, and at home.

She will be remembered with immense love and missed beyond measure by all who were fortunate enough to know her.

Viewing hours will be held on Friday, December 5, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to noon at Phillips Funeral Home in Corning, NY.
