Dr. Bill De'ak

2025

Bill De'ak, beloved husband, dad, brother, and friend, passed away on Sunday, November 30, 2025, at the age of 87.

He was known for his boundless curiosity and disarming personality, bringing humor, wisdom, and a mischievous smile into the lives of everyone he met.

Born in Baltimore, Maryland, his family soon moved to Pasadena, California, where Bill developed an early love for music, astronomy, and science before going on to study medicine at the University of Southern California. Board-certified in pediatrics, he spent many years in Alaska and later helped establish Kaiser Permanente in Longview, Washington. His adventurous spirit and medical career took him to many places he called home over the years, including Portland, Oregon; Kauai, Hawaii; Chapel Hill, North Carolina; Marietta, Georgia; Dallas, Texas; Alpine, California; and Prescott, Arizona. He shared numerous travel adventures with his children, friends, and his loving wife, Sue.

Bill was a true Renaissance man who embraced every interest with full-hearted dedication. He will be remembered for his deep study of Spanish, his accomplished recorder playing, his avid biking, hiking, and golfing, his legendary bread baking, and the beautiful gardens he cultivated in every home he lived in.

He is survived by his wife, Sue; his children, Erzsi, Steve, and Tom; his stepchildren, Patrick and Katy; his grandchildren, Zazou, Nelly, Yoyo, Nisa, and Ben; his sister, Marion; his nieces and nephews, Elizabeth, Kris, Phil, and Tescia; and countless other family and friends who will miss him deeply and carry his love forward.
