Billy F. Hunt passed away in Louisville, Kentucky on July 4, 2025 after an extended illness. He was born on December 23, 1937 to Grace and Leo Hunt in Cave City, Kentucky and leaves behind his wife of 41 years, Lynn Grise Hunt, two sons, Jeffrey Leo Hunt (Lorri) and William Scott Hunt (Laura); and three grandchildren (Will and Elise Hunt and Ricky Cortez).
Mr. Hunt graduated from Caverna High School and had a B.A. in history from Western Kentucky University and an M.A. in political science with an emphasis in state and local government from the University of Kentucky. He chose to spend a lifetime in public service and was passionate in his belief that government had the duty and ability to make a better life for all its citizens. Upon receiving his Master's from U.K., he became the Principal Budget Analyst for Education in the Kentucky State Budget Division and later the Associate Director for Administration at the Council on Higher Education. He continued his work in education as the Administrative Assistant for Education for Governor Wendell Ford and Special Assistant to the Superintendent of Public Instruction and Bureau Chief for Exceptional Children in the Kentucky Department of Education. The final twenty-three years of his career were spent as Deputy Executive Secretary of the Kentucky Teacher's Retirement System.
Beyond his public service, he was a much-loved husband, father, colleague, and friend; an avid baseball fan; a staunch Democrat; a permanent advocate for his original hometown of Cave City, KY; and a fount of political and historical knowledge.
