Billy D. McWhirter, age 90, passed away peacefully on October 11, 2025, in Kerrville, Texas, surrounded by loved ones. He was a beloved father, grandfather, husband and friend who will be fervently missed by all who knew him. Billy Mac was born on May 6, 1935, in Roby, Texas to Lester "Pete" McWhirter and Ana Mae "Sue" McWhirter.

Billy graduated from Aldine High School in 1953. He was a dedicated steward at the United States Postal service for 45 years. In addition, he was acting postmaster of Houston for 4 years and retired as the postmaster of Texas City. He married Mary Villagran in February of 1974. Together they started a beautiful and vivacious family which still holds him in high regard for being an honest, hardworking, loving, reliable, protective, creative and funny human they were blessed to call husband, Dad and Peepaw. This eccentric and artistic jokester knew how to have fun and also how to balance the principals of both generosity and financial responsibility. He was a man of principal and made sure to model these principals for all in his care.

Billy was a nature-loving minimalist that loved the outdoors, especially in the Summer. He was a simple shorts and t-shirt kind of guy that loved making every holiday special. His best life advice was, "take every opportunity you get" - and he did this well. He lived an active lifestyle and enjoyed tennis and running. Memorial Park, in Houston, was one of his favorite places to run. He also loved playing games with his family and grandkids. He liked inventing new games to play as well. Many Saturdays were filled with outings that started with a stop at Shipley's donuts and ended with a game of chess, dominoes or rook at his old poker table. The way he took care of his family was a testimony of his selflessness. Weather it was going to Herman Park, the Houston Zoo, the Arboretum, camping in the Hill Country or taking the family to ride the ferry in Galveston, every opportunity to be with those he loved dearly laid a loving foundation of memories that will sustain his loved ones for a lifetime. The echo of both his laughter and words of wisdom resonate in the hearts of all who were blessed to love him and be loved by him.

Every summer, take a walk at the park, spend time with your family, have a laugh, play a game and raise a whiskey & coke to the skies and remember Billy McWhirter. Smile knowing he is at peace, and we will laugh and play lots more chess with him in eternity!

Billy is survived by his life-long love and best friend, Mary Villagran; children, Randy McWhirter, Katsy McWhirter (Corey Laborde) and Scott McWhirter; sister, Carol Sue Springer; grandchildren, Cody and Tanner McWhirter, Paul Dean, III, Billy Bennett, Shella Fiscus, Dorothy Fiscus, Taylor Estrada, Daylon Fiscus, Amy Burks, Maximilian McWhirter, Michaelangelo Laborde and Kass Laborde; many nieces, nephews, great-grandchildren and beloved cats, Snickers and Freedrick. Billy is preceded in death by his parents, Lester McWhirter and Ana Mae McWhirter; daughter, Shelley Fiscus; siblings, Foy McWhirter and Bobby McWhirter.

A memorial service to honor the life of Billy Mac will be held at Bear Creek Baptist Church at 5901 N Fry Rd., Katy, Texas 77449, on Tuesday, October 28th at 12:00pm. To honor Billy, the family has decided to purchase a park bench at the Houston Arboretum, one of his favorite places. Memorial donations are welcomed in lieu of flowers. Contributions are so appreciated and can be sent through PayPal: @katsymcwhirter or Zelle: 713-292-6875.

The family expresses immeasurable gratitude to all who loved Billy and were a part of his amazing journey through this life. He will be greatly missed but we rest in the promise of eternity and seeing him again.

Philippians 4:8 (AMP)
8 Finally, believers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable and worthy of respect, whatever is right and confirmed by God's word, whatever is pure and wholesome, whatever is lovely and brings peace, whatever is admirable and of good repute; if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think continually on these things [center your mind on them, and implant them in your heart].
