Billy Joe Robbins, lovingly known as Bill, was born on March 30, 1934 in Nashville, Tennessee. He entered the presence of his Lord and Savior on March 20, 2026, in Fort Myers, Florida after a brief illness. He leaves behind a legacy of warmth, love, and joy.
Bill was a wonderful husband, a loving father, a proud grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother. He served his nation in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War and in the National Guard for 30 years including the Nike Hercules Missile Defense Program. He was awarded various medals, honors, promotions, and accommodations during his illustrious military career. He was a faithful deacon, finance committee member, board member, and sang in the choir at Southwest Baptist Church for over 30 years. He served humbly alongside his late wife, Betty. He was persistent in prayer on behalf of his family and friends desiring the best for them. He was a very kind, wise, humble, and loyal friend to all who knew him.
Bill excelled at sports, beginning a lifelong love of golf as a caddie at the Detroit Country Club as a child. He loved playing football and basketball at Clarenceville High School with his lifelong friends. Bill also enjoyed the outdoors, especially bow hunting deer in northern Michigan.
Bill is survived by son Barry and Ann Robbins of Michigan, son Craig and Tina Robbins of Michigan, stepson Raymond LaFehr of Michigan, and stepdaughter Nancy and Brad Bryant of Texas. He is also survived by sister-in-law Pauline Haney of Arizona, sister-in-law Jeanette Gunthner of Florida, sister-in-law Natalie Haney of Florida, brother-in-law Jerry and Diane Haney of Michigan, sister-in-law Judy and Ewell Hitchcock of Georgia, and brother-in-law Jim and Sherri Haney of Michigan. He was also proud of his 12 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Bill is now with Jesus and reunited with his loving wife, Betty, mother, Martha Kotsay, brother Sam and Nettie Robbins, brother Clay Robbins, parents-in-law Clarence and Mae Haney, brother-in-law John Haney, brother-in-law John Bloye, sister-in-law Dorothy Morris, brother-in-law Tom Haney, and stepson Steven LaFehr.
For those wishing to honor Bill, a memorial service celebrating his life will be held at Southwest Baptist Church in Fort Myers, Florida on April 18th beginning at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to the ministry of Samaritan's Purse
