Bonnie Kaplan

Bonnie Jean Piusz Kaplan, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, sister and amazing friend, took her last breath on December 20, 2025, in Pahoa, Hawaii after a long illness. She was 74 years old.

Born on June 1, 1951, in Springfield, Massachusetts, Bonnie lived a vibrant life marked by love, adventure, and an entrepreneurial spirit. Her journey took her across the country, going ‘back to the land’ in California. There she pursued endeavors that reflected her creativity and passion for connecting with others.

Among her many ventures was “I Love Salad,” an organic soup and salad booth at the Whole Life Festival in San Francisco, showcasing her dedication to hearty food and healthy living. Later in life, after raising four children, Bonnie opened a Bikram yoga studio in Ukiah, California. At “Radiant Yoga” she built a community where she shared her love of movement and wellness.

Bonnie’s interests extended beyond her professional achievements. She found joy in yoga, music, dancing at concerts, growing and arranging flowers, and preparing nourishing meals for those she cared about. Her adventurous spirit and warmth left a lasting impression on everyone she met. Old friends and new faces were a common sight at family gatherings, a testament to her kindness and welcoming spirit.

Bonnie is survived by her two sisters, Gayle Turnberg and Deja Ellison; devoted husband Bart Kaplan; daughter Kristen Selvage and her husband Jason Selvage; daughter Lana Smith; son Elijah Kaplan; stepdaughter Lauren Kaplan; stepson Eric Kaplan and six beloved grandchildren; Jena And Jack Selvage, Sadie, Ronin and Justin Smith, and Naya Ramirez. She was predeceased by her daughter Shawnee Kaplan but carried Shawnee’s memory in her heart throughout her life.

Bonnie will be remembered for her humor, generosity, adventurous nature, and boundless love for people. Her legacy is one of love, laughter, and connection—a life well-lived that continues to inspire all who knew her. May her memory bring comfort to those who loved her.

A Celebration of Life will take place at 1:00 pm on Sunday, May 17, 2026 at the Elks Lodge, 1200 Hastings Rd, Ukiah, Ca 95482
