Bradley David Smith, (B-Rad) 72, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2026. Born on February 18, 1953, in Jamestown, New York, Brad lived a life marked by craftsmanship, humor, and deep devotion to his family.
Brad was a graduate of Southwestern Central High School in the Class of 1971. Brad went on to build a career that reflected both his skill and dedication. He was a master carpenter for much of his life—a trade that suited his love for working with his hands and creating something lasting. Later in life, he worked at Caterpillar in Clayton, North Carolina, before retiring in 2017 from SKF as a CNC operator.
Even after retirement, Brad remained active and engaged. His family affectionately referred to him as a "professional putterer," always tinkering or building something new. Alongside his wife Susan and son Jason, he helped run a small side business called Pallets to Penthouse. Through this venture, he not only assembled unique creations but also enjoyed meeting new people—something he cherished deeply.
Brad had a passion for the outdoors and spent countless hours hunting and fishing. Whether it was crafting something from scratch or casting a line into the water, he found joy in simple pleasures and shared them generously with those around him.
He will be remembered for his laid-back nature and sharp sense of humor. Never one to rush through life, Brad brought calm wisdom to every situation. His presence was steadying; his laughter contagious.
Brad is survived by his soulmate and wife of 34 years, Sue (Mamahawk); his children Jason Holbrook, Lyndsi Larson, and Amanda Caldwell (Bryan); grandchildren Meredith Centi (Dylan), Dylan Holbrook, Kortnie Holbrook, Colton Holbrook, Xavier Jordan, Noel Caldwell, Damyn DeMarco, Jaxsyn DeMarco, Bryan Caldwell Jr., and Chance Caldwell; and great-grandchild Azaiyah Garcia.
He was preceded in death by his parents John and Harriet Smith and by his son Gary Holbrook.
Bradley's legacy lives on through the many lives he touched with his kindness, craftsmanship, and unwavering love for family. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.
