Bradley David Smith, 72, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2026 surround by those who adored him. Born on February 18, 1953, in Jamestown, New York, Brad lived a life defined by craftsmanship, humor, and devotion to family.
Brad was a 1971 graduate of Southwestern Central High School. Brad built a career that reflected his skill and dedication. He worked for many years as a master carpenter, a trade that allowed him to create lasting works with his hands. Later in life, he was employed at Caterpillar in Clayton, North Carolina, and retired in 2017 from SKF as a CNC operator.
Even in retirement, Brad remained active. Alongside his wife Sue and son Jason, he helped run a small side business called Pallets to Penthouse. Through this venture, he enjoyed assembling products and meeting new people—something he valued deeply.
Brad had a lifelong love for the outdoors and spent many hours hunting and fishing. Whether crafting something from scratch or casting a line into the water, he found joy in simple pleasures and generously shared them with those around him.
He will be remembered for his laid-back nature and sharp sense of humor. His calm presence and contagious laughter brought comfort and joy to many.
Brad is survived by his soulmate and wife of 34 years, Susan (Curtis) Smith (Mamahawk); his children Jason Holbrook, Lyndsi Larson, and Amanda Caldwell (Bryan); grandchildren Meredith Centi (Dylan), Dylan Holbrook, Kortnie Holbrook, Colton Holbrook, Xavier Jordan, Noel Caldwell, Damyn DeMarco, Jaxsyn DeMarco, Bryan Caldwell Jr., and Chance Caldwell; and great-grandchild Azaiyah Garcia.
He was preceded in death by his parents John and Harriet Smith and by his son Gary Holbrook.
Per Brads request there will not be a service, but the family will have a celebration of life in the spring.
