Brenda Susan Altman (née Goldberg), age 84, passed away peacefully on February 8, 2026, in New York, New York. A lifelong resident of the city she loved, Brenda was born on May 16, 1941, in New York City.
Brenda earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education from Queens College and went on to receive a Master’s degree in Education from New York University.
For over 25 years, Brenda served as a kindergarten teacher at the International Preschools in Manhattan. Her dedication extended beyond the classroom. She also led the After School Program as its director, creating enriching experiences for countless children and left an enduring mark on generations of students and their families.
Brenda was deeply devoted to her family. She is remembered by her son Dr. Evan Robert Goldfischer, a urologist in Poughkeepsie, New York and her daughter Stephanie Ann Goldfischer, Esquire of New York, New York. She took great pride in their accomplishments and found joy in celebrating their successes throughout her life.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Lawrence Altman, whose memory remained close to her heart.
Outside of her professional life, Brenda had a deep appreciation for the arts. She was an avid theatergoer and opera enthusiast who found inspiration and delight in performance and music. Her impeccable sense of style reflected her love of fashion—a passion she carried with elegance throughout her life.
A woman of faith and tradition, Brenda was a longtime member of Temple Emanu-El in Manhattan. Her connection to the Jewish community was an important part of her identity and spiritual life.
A funeral service honoring Brenda’s life was held at The Mount Lebanon Cemetery in Glendale, New York on February 10, 2026.
