Brenda Lee Mettlin

1968 - 2026

Brenda Lee Mettlin, age 57, passed away on April 5th, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. After 23 days in hospice care, she left this world peacefully, free from pain, surrounded by love, and made whole again.

Brenda was born on July 6, 1968, in Waterloo to Eleanor M. McGowan and William D. Mettlin Sr.

She is lovingly remembered by her parents; her son, Zachary Fowler; her beloved grandsons, Eli and Preston Berger; and her daughter-in-law, Sarah Fowler, who was like a daughter to her. She is also survived by her siblings and their spouses: William and Tammie Mettlin Jr., Kirk and Tammy Mettlin, Kevin and Christina Mettlin; her brother, Matt Earl; her adopted brother, Grant Mettlin; and her stepsons, Shane and Jason Fowler.
Brenda also leaves behind a large extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and many special friends. She was preceded in death by her niece, Nikki Mettlin.

Brenda will be remembered as a courageous, kind, loving, resilient, and gentle woman, with a lot of sarcasm and a stubborn streak that made her uniquely herself. She fiercely loved her family and cherished the time she spent with them. Brenda found joy in camping, canoeing, fishing, coloring, and taking photographs. She also had a special fondness for collecting anything turtles, a hobby that brought her much happiness. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

Please join us to honor and celebrate the life of Brenda on Saturday, April 25th, from 3:00 PM – 6:00 PM. We will be having an open house style gathering to share memories, stories, and pictures. Food and refreshments will be served.

In Brenda’s honor, wear pink and/or anything with turtles, as these were two of her favorite things.

Location and Parking
225 W. Ridgeway (Ridgeway Towers Apartments) Waterloo

Celebration of Life will be held in the main floor community room of Ridgeway Towers apartment building, using the outside patio entrance. Due to limited parking for guests, please park in Plaza Circle located next to (west side of) Ridgeway Towers. There is a sidewalk from Plaza Circle to parking lot & sidewalk of Ridgeway Towers. Those with a handicap placard may park in the parking lot of Ridgeway Towers.
