Brent Evans Hoad, 73, of Overland Park, KS, passed away on January 20, 2026 in Kansas City, Missouri.
Brent was born on January 19, 1953 in Oakland, California, the only child to Bruce Hoad and Carolyn Hadden Hoad. He graduated from Topeka West High School, and received his Bachelor's Degree in Biology from the University of Kansas.
While holding various jobs throughout his life spent in Topeka, Lawrence, Los Angeles, and Kansas City, Brent's true vocation was as a lifelong musician and songwriter. He was a founding member of notable bands The Secrets* and The Elders, both of which received inductions into the Kansas Music Hall of Fame.
Brent was preceded in death by his parents Bruce and Carolyn Hoad, his aunts, Alice June Hoad and Gertrude Hoad Brodhag, and his uncle Frank Hoad. He is survived by his two adult children, Spencer Hoad of Los Angeles, CA, and Sophie Halma of Prairie Village, KS, as well as three grandchildren and cousins Graham Hoad of California and Cindy Hoad of Utah. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, his appreciation of nature and the outdoors, the joy his music brought to many, and his persistence. His children are relieved that he is now safe, at peace, and free from any suffering. He was loved.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the National Association for Children of Addiction (NACoA) or Band of Angels in Brent's honor.
