Brett Schmidt, age 52, passed away on January 7, 2026, in Mequon, Wisconsin. Born on September 23, 1973, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Brett lived a life marked by kindness, love, and a caring spirit that touched all who knew him.
He was the beloved son of Steve Schmidt and the late Linda Schmidt (Nee Davis). Brett shared a close bond with his sisters Nicole Schmid (Brian Schmid) , Natalie Stella, and Shannon Schmidt. He was also a cherished uncle to Hannah, Emily, Dominic, Noah, Owen, Madyson, and Violet—each of whom brought joy to his life. Also survived by his bonus family, Phil Kremsreiter and the late Sue Kremsreiter, Josh Kremsreiter, Mara Sebestyen (Justin Sebestyen), Megan Kremsreiter (Junior) and additional bonus nieces and nephews, Kara, Zoe, Brody, Sydney and Dominic. Also survived by many Aunts, Uncles and Cousins who loved him dearly.
A devoted fan of the Denver Broncos, Brett found joy in cheering for his team and sharing that passion with those around him. His enthusiasm was infectious and often brought people together in celebration or friendly rivalry.
Those who knew Brett remember him as someone who gave freely of his heart—a man whose warmth and compassion left lasting impressions. Whether through a shared laugh or a quiet moment of support, he made others feel seen and valued.
In honoring Brett's memory, we reflect on the words he held dear:
*"Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free!
I follow the plan God laid for me.
I saw His face, I heard His call,
I took His hand and left it all..."
These lines speak to the peace he found in faith and the comfort he wished to leave behind for those mourning his loss.
