Brian James Idstein, beloved husband, father, papa, son, friend and lifelong resident of Elgin, suddenly passed away in his home on December 2, 2025 at the age of 60.
Born on February 3, 1965 in Elgin, he was the son to the late Bernard "Bernie" and Judy (Culver) Idstein. He married Tammie Milam on July 25, 1987. They had two children, Matthew Brian and Melissa Sue.
Brian was devoted to his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Tammie, his children Matthew (Natalie), and Melissa (Matthew), four grandchildren, Jordan, Lucas, Sofia, and Nico, and the loving family dog, Tucker. He is also survived by his mother, Judy, and brother, Robert "Bob" (Barb). He was preceded in death by his father, Bernie, and brother, Barry.
Brian graduated from Elgin High School in 1983 and joined Local 582 as a laborer for 30 years. His strong will, strength, and work ethic continued far beyond his retirement. He was a proud papa who generously cared for his grandchildren regularly, creating lasting memories.
He loved spending time by the water, taking vacations, and snowmobiling and fishing at the cabin. He could always be found baking, gardening in the backyard, or working on a project. He loved going to the gym, staying active and keeping busy.
Brian's contagious laugh and presence will be forever cherished by all who knew him.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Laird Funeral Home (Elgin) on Saturday, December 6 from 3 - 7 pm.
