Brian passed away at the young age of 43 on October 16, 2024 after a tough diagnosis and valiant battle of stage 4 colon cancer in March of that same year. Brian is survived by his wife Jennifer Morlan and three children: Mackenzie Morlan, Blake Morlan, and Siena Morlan.
Growing up: Brian was born to Ron and Cathy Morlan on November 14, 1980. His sister Elizabeth Morlan (now Elizabeth Scott) was born in July 1983. They lived in Lakewood, WA. He was active at his church, Lake City Community Church where he made lifelong friendships. Brian enjoyed the many family trips made to California to visit his grandmother, uncle Richard and aunt Lynn; this is also when his love of Disneyland was sparked.
Education: Brian was top of his class at Lakes High School in Lakewood, WA. He ran cross country and won many awards for his running abilities. Brian spent many hours on the soccer field from elementary school through high school, both as a player and a referee.
He got his undergraduate degree in Chemistry from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY. He loved his time there, played hockey and many other intramural sports and enjoyed cheering for the Red Sox.
His graduate degree is from University of Washington where he received a Master’s in Chemistry. He made amazing friends at UW and continued friendships from high school while living in Seattle. After graduating he was hired by Chevron in Point Richmond, CA and made a move to Walnut Creek, CA.
Career: Brian was a Chemist at Chevron and his last job title was Fuels Staff Scientist. He had a fulfilling career at Chevron for 18 years. It was a joy for him to go to work each day and he was loved by his colleagues. Chevron created an award in Brian’s memory called The Brian Morlan Innovation and Collaboration Award.
Life: First and foremost Brian’s priority in life was serving God. This was evident in how he lived his life as a husband, colleague, friend, church member, father, uncle, son, brother, son-in-law, and nephew.
He had a great sense of humor and was passionate about many fun things such as alternative & classical music, sports, fantasy sports, the Seahawks, the Mariners, random things like an Oxford comma, video games, tech: loving iPhones and building his own computers, Star Wars, Disney, Marvel, movies of any kind, travel, and his wife, kids & family. Brian loved Italian food, Mexican food, Steak and Sushi, and hated all cruciferous vegetables. He had a healthy heart and loved running for fitness. He would never say no to eating Fruity Pebbles cereal or Sour Patch Kids candy.
Brian loved being a dad. He was the best cuddler and tickler and made-up story creator. He made sure his kids knew all about Star Wars as soon as it was appropriate and instilled in them a love for video games. He was a wonderful husband and called his wife his best friend. He was a great partner when it came to taking care of the kids and home.
Brian served at church in small groups ministries and was training to be on the elder board. He also helped in the booth on Sundays and was a go-to person when any tech problems came up.
He is now with the Lord Jesus and will be dearly missed by so many here until we can see him again.
