ROCHESTER, MN - Bruce Herbert Kidman, age 93, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2026, in Rochester, Minnesota.
Born on September 14, 1932, in Hamlin County, South Dakota, to Bert and Signe Kidman, Bruce grew up in Wessington Springs. A natural athlete from a young age, he played football and ran track, often spending his free time hunting in the local hills with his brother, Russell.
Bruce was best known by all who knew him for his quick wit, dry humor, and ability to bring a smile to people's faces.
Bruce earned a degree from South Dakota State University and enjoyed a distinguished career as a civil engineer, serving in various capacities including work with the U.S. Soil Conservation Service and the Department of Energy in Los Alamos, New Mexico.
A man of faith and community spirit, Bruce was an active member of St. John's United Methodist Church in Santa Fe, New Mexico, for over 60 years, where he frequently led adult Sunday school classes. His commitment to service also extended to his many years of volunteering at CHRISTUS St. Vincent Regional Medical Center.
Bruce was an accomplished swimmer who earned numerous awards in Senior Olympic competitions across the nation. Above all, he was a devoted father who shared his love for the outdoors and sports with his sons, taking them hunting, showing them how to fix things, and remaining a supportive presence in their athletic endeavors.
Bruce was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Lou Kidman, and his son, Steven Kidman,
He is survived by his son Mark Kidman and daughter-in-law Yvette, and their children, Sallie, Emmy, and Jenna; and his son Brian Kidman and daughter-in-law Stephanie, and their children, Anna and Katie.
