Bruce Conrad Siegel passed away on December 14, 2025, in Nashville, TN, at age 66, with his family by his side.

Bruce was a devoted husband, a proud father, and an adoring grandfather. Bruce is survived by his flock of “seagulls”: his loving wife, Dong; his proud daughter, Naomi; his fellow sports fan son-in-law, Pedro; and his handsome grandson, Oren.

Bruce was born in Chicago and was good-hearted, honest, intelligent, and strong. He was a bookworm who highly valued education and craved the pursuit of higher knowledge. He loved English, economics, and statistics, and obtained a bachelor’s degree from Northern Illinois University in 1982 and a master’s degree from Western Illinois University in 1989. He met Dong, the love of his life, while they attended the University of Tennessee Knoxville for advanced degrees. Bruce took great pride in his career as a Property and Casualty Insurance Analyst at the State of Tennessee and State of Maryland. He achieved numerous professional designations such as becoming a Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter, and he earned the Maryland Insurance Administration’s Commissioner’s and Governor’s Awards upon his retirement.

Bruce was an avid hockey and baseball fan, attending games around the country with his daughter and son-in-law. He loved road trips and listening to classic rock, especially Bruce Springsteen. He had an impressive ability to memorize poetry, reciting poems like “Casey at the Bat,” “The Raven,” and “The Canterbury Tales” by heart. He enjoyed jogging, every year participating in Nashville’s Boulevard Bolt Thanksgiving Turkey Trot and even running the Country Music Half Marathon with his daughter. He looked forward to good food, from Chicago style hot dogs and deep dish pizza, to Nashville hot chicken, to trying new restaurants and unfamiliar cuisines. Most of all, Bruce cherished his coworkers, keeping in touch with his life-long friends, and spending time with his family near and far.

Bruce fought hard against a grueling 10 year battle with cancer. Every morning near the end of his cancer journey, Bruce and his wife, Dong, would greet each other with a “choo choo” train sound – a hopeful exchange they made for Bruce to communicate that he was determined to keep running like “the little engine that could.” Even on the morning he passed, he “choo choo-ed” with hope of carrying on. Bruce was a fighter through the very end.

Bruce’s family deeply appreciates everyone who touched his life. They will carry his legacy forward and will always have him in their hearts.
