Bruce Parker Smith passed away peacefully on February 23, 2026. He leaves behind a legacy of generosity, intelligence, and quiet strength.
Bruce had a remarkable ability to fix, build, and understand almost anything. He worked with wood, engines, aircraft, and ideas, always with care and precision. Above all, he loved his family and the golden retrievers who were never far from his side, especially his beloved Marley.
Bruce lived a life grounded in curiosity and craftsmanship. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. He later became a mechanic, master woodworker, builder, pilot, and educator, teaching Microbiology at Housatonic Community College. Whatever he pursued, he approached with dedication and purpose.
Bruce was married to Martha for many years. They remained connected by affection, gratitude, and friendship long after their marriage ended, and together they raised their two children, Sarah and Christopher, who were the greatest pride of his life.
His daughter, Sarah Smith Forster, now steward of the family property in Oxford, Connecticut, founded Oxford Blooms Flower Farm with her husband, Edward. Bruce was deeply proud that Sarah shared his love of botany and the natural world.
His son, Christopher Bruce Smith, of South Carolina, became a heavy rescue fireman for Horry County. Bruce admired Christopher's courage, commitment, and service to his community.
Bruce was predeceased by his parents, W.D. Smith and Jane Parker Smith, and by his brother, Douglas Smith. He is survived by Douglas's wife, Gretchen, and their daughters, Kristin and Lauren.
