Byron E. Van Arsdale III
March 11, 1956-November 20, 2025
Byron E. Van Arsdale III passed away on November 20, 2025, leaving behind a life marked by generosity, curiosity, laughter, and an uncommon ability to bring people together.
A natural coach and mentor, Byron believed in people often before they believed in themselves. He asked insightful questions, listened closely to what they said, had a gift for helping others see what was possible, and nudging them to act. His people-first approach emphasized that personal connection matters most, that people support what they help to create, and there is a wealth of wisdom in the room when you know how to surface it.
These principles shaped both his life and his work. His influence extended across senior leadership in numerous industries, organizations, and continents in both the private and public sectors. Byron trained more than 2,000 business and professional coaches worldwide. For more than three decades, his Six-Principle Model of Effective Leadership in virtual and face-to-face environments has shaped leadership conversations across the globe.
Byron approached life with the same curiosity he brought to coaching. He was an Eagle Scout that lived by those principles, give more than you receive, remain ethical and honest, accept life fully, and enjoy each day. He didn't just write about and train these ideas but practiced them daily.
Byron had a big personality and a playful streak. He loved conversation, humor, and spending time with others. Laughter followed him easily, and he rarely missed an opportunity to stir things up just enough to make life more interesting.
At the center of Byron's life was his marriage to Bernice Ross. They shared a rare partnership both personally and professionally, one built on laughter, mutual respect, and a deep enjoyment of one another's company. Byron took his most important role seriously: making Bernice laugh and making sure they always knew how much they loved each other. He often reminded her, "Together we're better." Their life was grounded in shared purpose, deep affection, and humor, the kind that carries you through both life's greatest joys and its most painful challenges.
Byron and Bernice both loved cruising. Their voyages took them across both the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans, exploring Russia, Scandinavia, much of Europe and the Mediterranean, Mexico, Canada, Central and South America, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Bali, and Indonesia. In Antarctica in 2023, they descended 475 feet below the ocean's surface in a submersible, an experience that captured Byron's enduring curiosity and willingness to go deeper, literally and figuratively. Travel was never about checking places off a list, but about discovery, shared experience, and the joy of seeing the world together.
On the golf course, Byron was known not just for his play but for his spirit. Friends remember "Byron the Baker," the man who showed up with homemade desserts, laughter, and a running commentary that made every round more memorable. He loved the game, but he loved the people more and deeply enjoyed the camaraderie surrounding it.
Byron delighted in surprising people, telling stories, and finding ways to make ordinary moments memorable. Above all, Byron treasured relationships. He laughed easily, loved deeply, and showed up fully. His legacy lives on in the confidence he helped build, the conversations he sparked, and the joy he spread so freely.
He is survived by his wife, Bernice Ross; his brothers, William (Bill) and Cory Van Arsdale; his brother-in-law, Vernon Ross, sisters-in-law, Lynne Van Arsdale and Mona Lee Locke; and his beloved nieces and nephews, their spouses, and children. His Celebration of Life was held on December 9, 2025, at the Hills Country Club in Lakeway, Texas.
