Calvin D. Powell was born on July 19, 1964, in Chicago, Illinois, to Jessie and Sara (Petty) Powell, both of whom preceded him in death. Calvin was a very loving and dedicated son. He was his parents' caregiver before each of them were deceased. He was the youngest of three sons. His oldest brother, Jessie Powell III, preceded him in death. Calvin was the proud father to not only Ryan, but also to his fur baby Behr, who preceded him in death.
Calvin was baptized as young child at St. Killian Catholic Church, in Chicago. He attended St. Killian School from kindergarten through eighth grade. He later attended Brother Rice High School, where he graduated with honors. Despite enduring a long and courageous health battle that required dialysis, Calvin remained determined to achieve his educational goals. He returned to college later in life and graduated from Chicago State University in 2019, earning a degree in Physics with a focus in Engineering. This accomplishment was a source of great pride for him.
Throughout his life, Calvin held numerous jobs and was known for his strong work ethic and willingness to help anyone. His final place of employment was Nalco Water, a division of Ecolab, in a position he was very honored to hold. Calvin was known for his sharp mind and remarkable memory and academic excellence. He was full of information and stories and could recall the smallest details from decades earlier. He was also a music lover and would often play the hits from all genres and eras to bring life to any party.
On December 31, 2020, Calvin married his high school sweetheart Angela Allen, after decades of being apart. As a couple, they enjoyed spending time together with family and friends. Calvin was an avid Chicago Bears enthusiast and a connoisseur of fine dining. He and Angie enjoyed traveling together. They took several trips including Acapulco, a western Caribbean cruise and their most recent trip was to Hawaii.
Calvin leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Angela; his son, Ryan; his stepson, Josiah; his brother, Jeffrey (Elorysa); his niece, Arielle; his mother in law, Lerinee Allen and a host of aunts, cousins, extended family members, and friends who will miss him dearly. He always felt Angie's family was HIS family and had a special love and adoration for "Uncle Franky and Auntie Eddy" .
Calvin will be remembered for his perseverance, intelligence, love of learning, dedication to family, and the lasting impact he made on all who knew him.
