Carl John Colombi, 62, passed away on Monday, February 2, 2026. He was born on January 24, 1964, in Rockford, Illinois, to James and Rosi (Balla) Colombi.

Carl graduated with honors from St. James School and East High School and continued his education at Kishwaukee College, where he studied horticulture. His love of landscaping and caring for the spaces around him reflected his appreciation for simple beauty and hard work.

He is survived by his brothers, Michael (Laura), David, Jimmy, and Bobby; and by his many nieces and nephews: Shannon (John), Sarah, Grace, Mark Carlisle; Dustin (Tracy), Andrew; Erin, Erica, Robbie; Joey (Andrea), and Mackenzie (Mikey), along with many great-nieces and great-nephews who brought him joy.

Carl lived his life with thoughtfulness and measured steps, staying close to the family home and the family business, CJ's Lounge. As a boy, he was part of the North First Street crew and later became a member of both the Verdi Club and the Lombardi Club. He took pride in tending the landscaping along his favorite Madison Street spots and found happiness in music and good conversation during his many visits to Mary's Place.

Known for his skill on the bocce court, Carl was widely considered the best Colombi bocce player, making each throw with care and precision. Affectionately dubbed the "Mayor of Madison Street," he treated his friends like rock stars and never met anyone he didn't consider a friend. His loyalty and kindness left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Rosi, and his adopted brother, Stanley.

The family extends a heartfelt thank you to Becky and Jason at Mary's Place for their friendship and care, and to Father David Beauvais and St. James Church for their support and prayers.

A Celebration of Life is currently being planned, with details to be announced, so all who knew and loved Carl may come together to remember and honor him.
