Carl Lyle Smith, age 84, of Roan Mountain, Tennessee, formerly of Friendswood, Texas passed away peacefully on Friday, June 20, 2025 at The Courtyards Senior Living in Johnson City, Tennessee. Born November 18, 1940 in Barberton, Ohio, Carl was the son of the late Chester and Margaret (Brown) Smith.

A proud veteran of the United States Navy, Carl served his country with honor, a value he carried with him throughout his life. After his military service, Carl enjoyed a successful career and later retired from EM Blues, a wire rope manufacturer in Houston, Texas.

Carl was truly one of a kind—he was both a character and a mystery. With a heart always willing to help, he would do anything for those he loved, especially his family. His life was a blend of quiet strength, quick wit, and a deep sense of loyalty.

Carl was an active member of St. Christopher Episcopal Church, League City, Texas and found great joy on the water. An avid rower, he helped to found the Bay Area Rowing Club, a testament to his passion and leadership. Rowing was truly an outlet for Carl and a big part of his life.

Those left to continue Carl's legacy include his beloved wife, Frances Lantz; and his two beloved sons, Chad Michael Smith and wife Peggy and Matthew Charles Smith and wife JoAnita, all of Texas. Many nieces and nephews also survive.

The Celebration of Life Service for Mr. Smith will be conducted on Tuesday, November 18 at 11AM, St. Christopher Episcopal Church, 2508 St. Christopher Avenue, League City, Texas.

Special thanks to niece Tresa Harold of Elizabethton, TN; The Courtyards Senior Living and Gentiva Hospice Services of Johnson City, TN for their compassionate and loving care shown to Carl during his illness.

A reception will be provided in the church's Buckner Hall for all guests following the service.
