Ms. Carmen Phillips Garrigia, 83, passed away peacefully on February 17, 2026, in the Bronx, New York. Born on February 14, 1943, in New York City, Carmen lived a vibrant and fulfilling life marked by her love for family, art, and music.

Carmen earned her Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts from the School of Visual Arts, a place that would later become central to her professional life. She dedicated over 25 years to the institution, first as an admissions specialist and later as a mailroom supervisor. Her time at the School of Visual Arts reflected her passion for creativity and her commitment to fostering an environment where art could thrive.

Carmen was a woman of many talents and interests. She was an artist with impeccable taste and a keen eye for beauty. Her love for birds inspired countless hours of bird watching, while her diverse and extensive music collection showcased her appreciation for all genres. Shopping and enjoying good food were among her favorite pastimes, often shared with those she loved most. Known for her humor, generosity, and straightforward nature, Carmen had a unique ability to bring joy to those around her while offering unwavering support whenever it was needed.

Above all else, Carmen cherished her family deeply. She is survived by her daughters Hilary M. Shprecher and Alison Garrigia; Son-in-law Daniel E. Shprecher; grandchildren Alexandra S. Garrigia, Anthony T. Camacho Jr., Ian J. Shprecher, and Jillian N. Shprecher; and great-grandchild Ivy D. Shprecher. She also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews who will forever hold her memory close to their hearts.

Carmen was preceded in death by her daughter Grazia C. Garrigia; brothers William, Arthur, Charles, and Curtis Edwards; and sister-in-law Jewel Edwards.

Her presence brought light into the lives of everyone she encountered. Whether through her sassy humor or loving guidance, Carmen left an indelible mark on all who knew her. She will be sorely missed but fondly remembered by family members and friends alike.

May Carmen's memory serve as a source of comfort and inspiration to all who were fortunate enough to know her. A Memorial Gathering will be held on February 28, 2026, from 03:00 PM to 05:00 PM at Williams Funeral Home 5628 Broadway, Bronx, NY 10463.
