Carol Anne MacPherson (Francey) Leckey, born October 10, 1944, in Lexington, Massachusetts, and raised in Bedford, Massachusetts, spent her childhood years there. In her adult life, she and her husband, Cleve Leckey, made their home in Maine, drawn by their shared love of the mountains, the outdoors, and a quieter way of life.
Carol passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on January 19, 2026, at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.
Earlier in her life, Carol was married to Ronald W. Francey, with whom she raised her daughters in New Hampshire. In 1992, she married Cleve Leckey, who predeceased her. She was also predeceased by her parents, Freda C. MacPherson and Norman B. MacPherson; her daughter, Christine L. Gosselin of Hooksett, New Hampshire; and her brother-in-law, George Leckey of Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Carol was a devoted mother and grandmother and a wonderful friend to many. In her later years, she resided at Pinnacle in Canton, Maine, where she was warmly known and cared for.
She had a deep and abiding Christian faith and spent many quiet hours in reflection, prayer, and reading her Bible. In her faith journey, Carol grew to hold a deep affection for Mary, the Mother of Jesus, finding comfort and inspiration in her humility, faith, and love. She was an active member of the UCC Mexico Congregational Church for many years.
Carol loved the outdoors and gardening and found peace and joy in nature. She lived her faith through service, including her work with the March of Dimes and
Habitat for Humanity, as well as volunteering at Horton Center, a Christian camp in the White Mountains near Gorham, New Hampshire. She also served as a Girl Scout leader and Youth Group leader and volunteered in support of Baxter State Park, reflecting her deep appreciation for conservation and the natural beauty of Maine.
An avid reader, Carol delighted in discovering a new book and always found joy, comfort, and inspiration in reading. She also found great joy in music, from playing the clarinet in high school to being an active member of the church choir, which she truly loved. In her later years, she took up art, delighting in creativity and sharing her artwork with her daughters and grandchildren.
Carol is survived by her daughters Pamela Beaumont (husband James; children Joshua and Jacob), Elizabeth Amis of Norwood, Massachusetts (children Jason and Sean; father Kenneth), and Julie Collins of Debary, Florida (husband Andrew; children Annalinn Burkholder and Abigail Crevoiserat); her grandchildren Justin Gosselin of Rutland, Vermont, and Stephanie LaValley of Gilmanton Iron Works, New Hampshire (husband Jeffrey); her great-grandchildren William and Gabriel; her brothers-in-law John Leckey (wife Joyce) of Wilbraham, Massachusetts, and Greg Leckey (wife Uschi) of Offenbach, Germany; her sister-in-law Karen Leckey Foust (husband Matt) of West Gardiner, Maine; and her beloved grandchildren, who will forever cherish her love, faith, creativity, and gentle spirit.
A Celebration of Life will be held on May 18, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at the UCC Mexico Congregational Church (also known as the Green Church) in Mexico, Maine. Burial will follow at Sunnyside Terrace Cemetery in Rumford, Maine.
