Carol Ann Scott, 71, of Durham, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at home on January 12, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Lynn, Massachusetts on March 28, 1954, Carol was the daughter of the late Robert H. Ouimette and Geraldine (Adams) Ouimette. She was a devoted wife to her husband Walter Scott and a proud mother to her daughter Tonianne Tomb. Carol worked at the Taylor Family YMCA in Cary for many years, where her warmth, dedication, and kindness touched countless families in the community.
Carol was known for her warmth, her quick wit, and her ability to make people feel seen. She loved simple joys—family gatherings, good conversation, watching her grandsons play hockey just as she had watched their dad Stephen play lacrosse in high school, taking long walks with her beloved dog Buddy around the neighborhood, listening to music, and traveling the world with her husband Walter. They had just returned in March from a trip to Greece and recently celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary in December. Even in her final months, she found moments of light: smiling at her family, sharing stories, and holding tight to the people she loved most.
She faced her illness with courage and grace, teaching everyone around her what it means to love without condition. Her presence will be deeply missed, but the love she gave will live on in every person she touched.
Carol is survived by her husband, Walter Scott; her daughter, Tonianne Tomb, and son-in-law, Stephen Tomb; her grandsons, Troy Tomb and Luke Tomb; her goddaughter, Susan Sacco; her sister, Ellen Ferguson, and brother-in-law, Thomas Ferguson; her brother, Daniel Ouimette; and a wide circle of family and friends that were fortunate to know her.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation in her memory to Wee Care Preschool at Wake Forest Baptist Church, 118 E. South Ave., Wake Forest, NC 27587, where her grandsons both attended, in her honor.
A private celebration of her life will be held by her family
